About Us
Scotland in a Snapshot is an incredibly exciting day tour run by Mark and Lesley who are both passionate local historians.
During the Tour, in our comfortable 17 seater minibus, you’ll visit the one of the highest waterfalls in Scotland, an iconic triangular castle owned by one of our most famous Scottish clans and the home of Whisky in Southern Scotland. The beautiful towns of Moffat and Gretna provide fantastic stories and there will be opportunities aplenty to see some of the most beautiful lochs, rivers, glens and hills not just locally, but in the whole country.

As historians both born and raised in Dumfries and Galloway they are passionate about sharing with others amazing historic sites and the beautiful scenery of Southern Scotland.
Mark Turner and Lesley Watson are both former history teachers in Dumfries and Galloway. Both have strong links with the local area and through their time in education were at the forefront of promoting and leading the outdoor classroom. Both are passionate about celebrating Scotland’s history with others and are proud to be now offering guided tours of Southern Scotland from their 16 seater minibus.
Mark was brought up in Garlieston, a small fishing village in the west of the Region, before moving to Glasgow to study History and Politics in 1986. He taught in secondary schools in Scotland for over 23 years beginning in Easterhouse in Glasgow before returning home to teach In Dumfries and Galloway in 1997. Mark was promoted to the level of Headteacher and was proud to serve local school communities in Lockerbie, Thornhill and most recently as leader of the innovative Dumfries High School community.
Lesley was born and raised in Dumfries attending a local primary and secondary school before heading off to Stirling University to study History, Religious Studies and Education. After completing her degree she quickly moved back to the region taking up a history post in Langholm in the East of Dumfries and Galloway. After four years teaching there she moved to the high achieving Wallace Hall Academy in Thornhill where she took up the promoted post of Pupil Support and most recently as Depute Head Teacher.
