The tour will have stops at the evocative Caerlaverock Castle. The ancestral home to the powerful Maxwell family the double moated masterpiece in sandstone is one of only two triangular Castles in Europe. Near the border with England lies two towns of Gretna and Gretna Green. These neighbouring towns both have fascinating stories based on marriages and the role of women in munitions factories in WW1.
We take our whisky seriously (after all, it is our national drink) and the fabulous buildings and ethos of Annandale Distillery make for a great stop-off during the tour where you’ll learn how Scotland’s leading export is lovingly produced.
Around the former spa town of Moffat you’ll visit the 5th highest waterfall in Britain – known locally as the Grey Mare’s Tail. As we drive through the Lowther hills the views will be dominated by steep sided lush hills with long valleys and deep gorges. The spectacular waters of this area will see us stopping at lochs, streams and reservoirs which will take your breath away.
